This Privacy Policy explains how The Saber Team (“The Saber Team,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in the mobile applications we publish for Android and iOS. It applies to all The Saber Team applications that link to this policy, including our educational, religious, quiz, calendar, time, and utility applications.

Our applications currently include Daily Tanya Quiz, Daily Chumash Quiz, Halachic Arc Clock, Aleph Beis App, Moshiach Now App, Chanukah App, Mezuzah Guide, Tefillin App, Chitas App, Purim App, and other applications published by The Saber Team. Individual features differ from app to app, so not every type of information described below is collected by every app.

Information We Collect

Information You Choose to Provide

Many of our apps can be used without creating an account or giving us personal information. When an app offers a contact, support, submission, order, registration, or feedback feature, we may collect information that you voluntarily enter or attach, including:

  • Your name
  • Your email address, telephone number, or other reply information
  • Your question, message, feedback, or other form responses
  • Photos, images, documents, or other content you choose to submit
  • Order or request details entered into a form

You are not required to provide this information unless it is needed to complete the feature you selected. If you choose not to provide it, the rest of the app may remain available, but we may be unable to respond to your request or complete the applicable service.

Device, Usage, and Technical Information

Depending on the app and feature, we or our service providers may receive limited technical information, such as:

  • App name and version
  • Operating system and version
  • Device manufacturer, model, language, and general settings
  • Internet protocol address and basic server access information
  • Crash, diagnostic, performance, or error information
  • Basic app interactions needed to operate, secure, or improve a feature

Some of this information is transmitted automatically when an app connects to an online service. Some is included only when you submit a support request. We use it to operate the apps, diagnose problems, prevent abuse, and improve reliability.

Location Information

Some applications, including applications that calculate local religious times, may use a location that you enter or location information provided by your device. Location is used to calculate or display information relevant to your area, such as local sunrise, sunset, or halachic times.

An app will request device location permission when that permission is needed. You may deny or revoke the permission through your device settings. You may also be able to choose a location manually. We do not use location information for targeted advertising or sell it to third parties.

Camera, Photos, and Other Device Permissions

Certain apps may request access to a device feature, such as the camera, only when it is needed for an app function. Camera previews and other content may be processed locally on your device. A photo or file is transmitted to us only when you choose a feature that submits or shares it, unless the app clearly explains otherwise before transmission.

You can deny or revoke app permissions in your Android or iOS settings. The related feature may not work without the permission, but unrelated portions of the app should remain available.

Information Stored on Your Device

Our apps may store settings, preferences, quiz progress, downloaded content, cached content, or files locally on your device. Local app data is generally removed when you clear the app’s storage or uninstall the app, although device backups and operating-system behavior may vary. Some apps disable cloud backup for sensitive or app-specific files.

How We Use Information

We may use information to:

  • Provide and operate the feature or service you requested
  • Calculate and display information based on your settings or location
  • Respond to questions, support requests, feedback, or authentication requests
  • Process orders or connect you with the organization responsible for fulfilling a request
  • Maintain, test, diagnose, and improve our applications
  • Prevent spam, fraud, misuse, and security threats
  • Comply with legal obligations and protect our rights and users

We do not use support submissions to enroll you in marketing emails unless you separately and clearly choose to receive them.

How We Share Information

We may share information only as reasonably necessary with:

  • Service providers that provide hosting, email delivery, form processing, error monitoring, data storage, or other technical services for our apps
  • Organizations responsible for a request when you use an app to contact a scribe, service provider, seller, or other identified organization
  • Transaction providers when you choose to place an order or make a payment through a third-party form or payment service
  • Government authorities or other parties when disclosure is required by law, valid legal process, safety needs, or protection against fraud and abuse
  • A successor organization in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or transfer of the applicable app or business, subject to applicable law

We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Third-Party Services, Websites, and Forms

Some app features display or link to content operated by third parties. These services may receive the information you enter, along with technical information normally transmitted during a web request. Embedded web content may also use cookies or similar technologies required to operate.

Information you submit directly to a third-party service is also governed by that provider’s privacy policy and terms. This includes app-store services, embedded forms, payment processors, maps, location or time-calculation services, linked websites, and other apps you select through a sharing feature.

The Saber Team does not directly collect or store complete payment-card information. Payments are handled by the payment processor or form provider identified at the time of the transaction.

Mezuzah Guide Specific Information

The following details apply specifically to the Mezuzah Guide Android app, package name com.TheSaberTeam.MezuzahGuide.

Questions and Authentication Requests

When you ask a scribe, submit a tutorial or placement question, or request help authenticating a mezuzah, Mezuzah Guide may collect:

  • Your name and reply email address
  • Your question, message, and any additional details
  • A photo of a mezuzah, scroll, doorway, or placement area
  • For authentication requests, information such as whether cracks are visible, the approximate scroll size, the scroll material, and notes you provide
  • The request type, app version, Android version, and device manufacturer and model

The live camera feed is processed on your device and is not transmitted to us. A captured photo is saved in app-specific storage and is transmitted only when you choose to submit a feature that includes it. Photos and form information are sent to our submission service using HTTPS. The service temporarily processes the submission and forwards it by email rather than intentionally storing it in a separate application database.

Mezuzah Guide submissions are delivered to Machon Stam so a qualified scribe can review and respond, and to The Saber Team for app support, quality control, error testing, and security. Our hosting and email providers process the submission as needed for delivery.

Your internet protocol address is received by the submission server and may be processed in hashed form for rate limiting, abuse prevention, and security. The hosting provider may retain ordinary server security and access logs according to its standard practices.

Buy Mezuzah Form

The Buy Mezuzah section displays an embedded order form provided by Formsite. Formsite may process information entered into the form, technical request data, and cookies or similar technologies needed to operate the form. The Mezuzah Guide app does not directly collect or store complete payment-card information. Please review Formsite’s Privacy Policy and any notices shown within the order form before submitting an order.

The current Mezuzah Guide app does not contain third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.

Data Retention and Deletion

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the requested service, respond to a submission, maintain and secure our apps, keep appropriate business records, resolve disputes, and comply with legal obligations. Retention periods vary according to the type of information and the service involved. Copies may remain for a limited period in routine email, system, or service-provider backups before being deleted through normal retention processes.

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information you submitted by emailing info@thesaberteam.com. Include the name of the app, the email address used, the approximate submission date, and enough information for us to locate the record. We may need to verify your identity. We may retain limited information when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect against fraud, abuse, or legal claims.

Data Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect information handled through our applications. Where we control the connection, personal information submitted by an app is transmitted using HTTPS. However, no electronic transmission or storage method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Your Choices and Privacy Rights

  • You may decline to submit optional personal information.
  • You may deny or revoke camera, location, or other permissions through your device settings.
  • You may clear locally stored app data or uninstall an app.
  • You may request access, correction, or deletion by contacting us.

Depending on where you live, applicable law may provide additional rights regarding your personal information. We will respond to valid requests as required by law.

Children’s Privacy

Some of our educational applications may be used by families and children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without appropriate parental consent. A child under 13 should not submit a name, email address, photo, location, message, or other personal information without the involvement and permission of a parent or legal guardian.

If we learn that we collected personal information from a child under 13 without appropriate consent, we will take reasonable steps to delete it. A parent or guardian may contact us to request access to or deletion of a child’s information.

International Processing

The Saber Team and many of the service providers used by our applications operate in the United States. If you use an app from another country, information may be transferred to and processed in the United States or another country where a service provider operates. Privacy laws in those locations may differ from those in your country.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when our apps, data practices, service providers, or legal requirements change. We will post the revised policy at this address and update the effective date above. When reasonably required, we will provide additional notice of material changes.
